Supported platforms for generated installers

install4j 13 can generate installers and archives for Java 1.8 and newer.

In addition to the platforms above, install4j 13 can also generate installers for 32-bit Windows x86.

Installation Notes for TAR-Archives (Linux/Unix)

All files are contained in an enclosing folder named install4j. Unpack the distribution file with

gunzip filename
tar xf filename

Start install4j by executing the shell script

install4j/bin/install4j

Installation Notes for RPM-Archives (Linux)

Install the RPM archive with rpm -i <download_filename> or your favorite rpm tool. Execute install4j at the command line or use the kde/gnome desktop file /opt/install4j/install4j.desktop

Installation Notes for DEB-Archives (Linux)

Install the DEB archive with sudo dpkg -i <package.deb> or your favorite Debian package manager tool. Execute install4j at the command line or use the kde/gnome desktop file /opt/install4j/install4j.desktop

How to Upgrade

You may install a new version of install4j on top of an older version. Your configuration will not be lost. You can install different major versions of install4j side by side.
